Calf Implants (Calves Implants)

Calf implants are among the most frequently requested body implant procedures by both men and women.

People who are considering calf implants are looking for increased mass, shapeliness and definition from all angles around the lower part of the leg. Implants add volume and definition.

Here are a few of the reasons people seek calf implants:

  • They desire their lower legs (calf area) to be more pleasingly proportionate to their thighs. (usually women)
  • They want to emphasize the bulk and size of their calf muscle. (usually men)
  • As a male bodybuilder they’ve reached a plateau of calf development and need some outside assistance to make the muscle larger.
  • The individual has lower leg defects resulting from accident, disease, or a defect at birth.

Since the ideal male calf looks quite different from that of the ideal female leg, it takes proper selection and placement to bring about the desired shape.

Over-enhancement can be a problem and it’s important to evaluate the entire body as well as the patient’s goals before selecting the implant. The implant itself is made from soft silicon material and is the smallest of all the body implants. It has a cigar-like shape and is available in different lengths, thicknesses, and widths. It’s also further customized to fit the patient during the calf augmentation surgery.

These implants can be used to build up the inside part of the calf, the outside, or both.

About procedure

A calf implant procedure is performed in our out-patient surgery center with the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

The surgeon places an incision along the existing crease behind the knee and inserts the implant under the fascia covering the muscle. The implant augments and outlines the muscle forming the calf, which is located at the lower third of the leg. The implants are selected before the surgery and further customized during the procedure.

At the end of the procedure, the surgeon will suture the incision closed. A co pressive stocking is placed over the area to reduce swelling and assist in healing.

The surgery takes about an hour and patients are able to return home the same day.

Your legs will be sore for a few days following the calf implant surgery and you will be asked to walk with assistance in order to help with healing and keep your legs strong. Within five days you’ll be able to walk unassisted and to drive. Most people are able to return to work within two weeks following the implant procedure. Three to four weeks after the surgery, patients are able to return to their normal workout routines, including leg exercises.

Results

The great results of your calf implant surgery are visible almost immediately and these results are permanent.

In some cases calfs implants can be combined with fat transfer procedure to enhance and round up lower part of the leg below calf muscles area.

As with all surgeries a calf implant procedure comes with risks. These include a bad reaction to the anesthesia, infection or bleeding, scarring, changes in sensation, and damage to underlying structure.
