Pectoral muscle (chest area) development with implants increases the size and definition of the pectoralis major muscles.

Pectoral implants first started as a way for body builders, who could not get enough muscular development in the chest with exercise.

In some cases, pectoral implants are also done to improve a congenital (appearing from birth) chest deformity which has caused the chest to appear too flat compared to the surrounding structure.

Pectoral implants are always placed under the muscle. These muscle enhancements are available in a variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate the natural chest anatomy and the ultimate goal of any patient.

About procedure

A pec implant procedure is performed with the patient under general anesthesia. The implants are inserted through a small incision in the armpit and are kept in place by the pectoralis muscle. The muscle function is not hindered nor is the ability for the muscle to be exercised once the patient has completely recovered. Normal activity can be resumed after as little as one week following pectoral implant surgery. Strenuous activity and exercise can be resumed in about 6 weeks.

Pectoral implants have become a popular solution for thousands of men seeking to improve and enhance the appearance of their chest and look more sculpted and muscular.

The biceps muscles are located at the front (top) of the upper arm and the triceps are at the bottom (underneath) the upper arm. For men who can’t get and retain enough muscle bulk and development in these areas with exercise alone, augmentation with implants is a great solution.

As with all surgery, there are risks with triceps or biceps implant procedures. These include infection, bleeding, nerve damage, asymmetry, and muscle or nerve damage.

To learn more about biceps and triceps implants in Chicago, please contact our office to schedule your consultation either by visiting our office or by Skype. We look forward to meeting you and discussing how we can help you can achieve your goals.

Biceps Implants

Some men have difficulty getting the shape and tone to their biceps that they’re looking for, even with a vigorous, strictly-maintained exercise routine. For these men, biceps implants could be the answer.

Biceps implants offer an increase in muscle size and definition in the top part of the upper arm and are an excellent solution for men who are having trouble getting the results and increasing this muscle mass from exercise alone.

Biceps implants can help patients who:

Are seeking a fuller, more muscular, and more defined appearance in their upper arms

Want to restore balance and proportion to their upper body

Want more muscle mass and definition than they can get from exercise

Have underdeveloped arms and would like more muscle mass

During a biceps implant procedure, an incision is typically made in the underarm. A pocket is then made, large enough to hold the implant. A soft, solid (not gel filled) implant formed and cut specifically to fit the patient, is inserted through the incision and positioned in a precise spot within the soft tissue under the fascia. The muscle and fat in the biceps area will form scar tissue to help keep the implant in place.

The incision is sutured closed and a small bandage is applied to reduce swelling and discomfort.

The patient can typically see the increase in bulk and aesthetically pleasing contours immediately after surgery.

Full recovery from biceps implant surgery may take up to four weeks.

The patient will be instructed not to raise their arms for two days following the procedure. At this point, the dressings are removed and the individual will be given a gentle exercise program to do in order to restore range of motion to the arms.

Usually within a week or two the physical use of the upper muscles of the upper body may be resumed and within one-month full muscular activity may be engaged upon.

Triceps Implants

A triceps implant procedure is designed to increase muscular definition and increased mass in the area of the bottom (back) part of the upper arm.

The surgery is useful for men or women who cannot achieve the lower arm toning and contours they desire, no matter how much targeted exercise they do.

Triceps implants are an excellent way to enhance the look of the upper arms by increasing mass and definition.

Triceps implants are similar to those for the biceps in that they help patients who are seeking fuller, more muscular upper arms with a more defined and aesthetically pleasing shape.

About procedure

The patient will first be put under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Our surgeon will make an incision under the arm. He then places the perfectly tailored silicone implant into the correct position under the fascia of the triceps muscle and secured in place by the pocket. Once the implant is in place, the doctor will suture the incision closed. A small dressing is placed over the incision to reduce swelling and assist in healing.

Sometimes, even with diligent and energetic exercise, people are not able to shape and build their trapezius muscles in the way they’d like. These muscles are located on each side of the neck, above the shoulders. Implants are a way to give the trapezius muscle all the contours and mass which didn’t happen, no matter how much exercise was performed.

These implants are tailored to each individual, offering a sleek, seamless look, that works well both for men and for women.

Trapezius implant surgery is performed at the surgery center under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis and patients can return home the same day.

The incision for this procedure is placed within the creases of the neck and the implant is inserted down above the trapezius muscle.

The trapezius implant procedure takes about an hour. Pain following the procedure is minimal to moderate and people are usually back to work within a week.

Thigh implants are less frequently requested than other body implants, but are still of great importance to those who need or want them.

When the thighs lack muscle tone and definition despite exercise, or have atrophied due to accident or illness, a thigh implant procedure offers a solution to restoring the aesthetic contours to the upper part of the leg.

A thigh implant procedure is performed in our out-patient surgery center with the patient under general anesthesia.

About procedure

The surgeon places his incision and inserts the implant under the thick coating of the muscle. The implant augments and outlines the muscles forming the thigh, which is located at the upper part of the leg. The implants are selected before the surgery and further customized during the procedure.

At the end of the procedure, the surgeon will suture the incision closed. An elastic garment is placed over the area to reduce swelling and assist in healing.

The surgery takes about an hour and patients are able to return home the same day.

Your legs will be sore for a few days following thigh implant surgery and ate first you will be asked to walk with assistance. Within a week you’ll be able to walk by yourself, without help and will be able to drive. Most people are able to return to work within two weeks following the implant procedure. Three to four weeks after the surgery, patients are able to return to their normal workout routines, including leg exercises.

For a thigh implant procedure, you will want to find a plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Turowski, or Dr Sood who have full knowledge of the types and sizes of implants available and the experience, skill, and aesthetic sense to help you select the right size and shape to suit your body type.

*Individual results may vary and there are no guarantees that you will experience the same results as those mentioned here.
The post Thigh Implants * first appeared on Dr Turowski - Plastic Surgery Chicago.

Calf implants are among the most frequently requested body implant procedures by both men and women.

People who are considering calf implants are looking for increased mass, shapeliness and definition from all angles around the lower part of the leg. Implants add volume and definition.

Here are a few of the reasons people seek calf implants:

They desire their lower legs (calf area) to be more pleasingly proportionate to their thighs. (usually women)

They want to emphasize the bulk and size of their calf muscle. (usually men)

As a male bodybuilder they’ve reached a plateau of calf development and need some outside assistance to make the muscle larger.

The individual has lower leg defects resulting from accident, disease, or a defect at birth.

Since the ideal male calf looks quite different from that of the ideal female leg, it takes proper selection and placement to bring about the desired shape.

Over-enhancement can be a problem and it’s important to evaluate the entire body as well as the patient’s goals before selecting the implant. The implant itself is made from soft silicon material and is the smallest of all the body implants. It has a cigar-like shape and is available in different lengths, thicknesses, and widths. It’s also further customized to fit the patient during the calf augmentation surgery.

These implants can be used to build up the inside part of the calf, the outside, or both.

About procedure

A calf implant procedure is performed in our out-patient surgery center with the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

The surgeon places an incision along the existing crease behind the knee and inserts the implant under the fascia covering the muscle. The implant augments and outlines the muscle forming the calf, which is located at the lower third of the leg. The implants are selected before the surgery and further customized during the procedure.

At the end of the procedure, the surgeon will suture the incision closed. A co pressive stocking is placed over the area to reduce swelling and assist in healing.

The surgery takes about an hour and patients are able to return home the same day.

Your legs will be sore for a few days following the calf implant surgery and you will be asked to walk with assistance in order to help with healing and keep your legs strong. Within five days you’ll be able to walk unassisted and to drive. Most people are able to return to work within two weeks following the implant procedure. Three to four weeks after the surgery, patients are able to return to their normal workout routines, including leg exercises.

Results

The great results of your calf implant surgery are visible almost immediately and these results are permanent.

In some cases calfs implants can be combined with fat transfer procedure to enhance and round up lower part of the leg below calf muscles area.

As with all surgeries a calf implant procedure comes with risks. These include a bad reaction to the anesthesia, infection or bleeding, scarring, changes in sensation, and damage to underlying structure.

For more information about calf implants and to find out if this procedure is right for you, schedule a consultation today.

The line and angle of the jaw can be extended and shaped with a special implant designed for just this need. Mandibular implants are designed to augment the angle of the jaw and to increase the width and jawline definition. This type of implant can be used in addition to anatomical implants to facilitate a complete re-shaping of the jaw line. It can make jawline wider, more pronounced or lowered to achieve more chiseled, model like looks. The incisions for implant insertion are made inside the mouth so there are no visible scars and results are permanent.

Concavity (a deep depression or inward curving) in the area of the temples is frequently referred to as temporal hollowing. This deepening of the temporal area can occur as a result of aging, surgery, or other trauma, or may appear in patients with low body fat (including fat in the temporal area).

Rejuvenating the contours of the temporal area by augmentation can have a rejuvenating and balancing effect on the facial appearance. This is aesthetically more important than one might think. The temporal region is considered the beginning of the natural triangle of beauty, which begins near the temples and ends at the tip of the chin.

Augmenting the temporal fat pad is frequently accomplished by injection of various filler materials.

Although simple to go through, injection of fillers has it throwbacks. First of all there is a chance (very rare) of serious complications such as blindness and skin necrosis. Also it has to be periodically repeated requiring injections every 6-12 months. For somebody who knows they will always look better with fuller temples the insertion of a temporal implant makes sense. This method of reconstructing contour depressions has been found to be reliable, relatively free of complications, and lasting.

The use of soft, silicone, temporal implants offers a workable and permanent solution for this type of facial rejuvenation.

Temporal Implant Procedure

Temporal implant procedure is performed either under general anesthesia or local anesthesia in an outpatient setting at our plastic surgery clinic.

During the operation, our plastic surgeon will place a small, vertical incision just in front of and above the ear (where it will be within the hairline). In potentially balding men incision can be placed behind the ear to avoid visible scar. An implant is then inserted through the opening above the temporal muscle in the hollow area on each side of the head. Neither the incision nor the implant will be noticeable.

Recovery from Temporal Implant Surgery

Most Temporal implant procedure patients report little discomfort but occasional bruising and swelling. The recovery time is minimal with most patients able to return to work in 2-3 days.

As regards to full recovery, temporal implants are muscle-based, not bone based, so full recovery is relatively quick with swelling reducing pretty quickly to get to the point where you can see and enjoy the final results of your temporal implant surgery.

One type of nasal implant that has come into increasing demand is the pyriform or paranasal implant.

Often performed as a adjunct to rhinoplasty, paranasal augmentation with custom-made silicone implants is a simple, safe, and inexpensive method that can readily improve a patient’s profile.

Clinical experience demonstrates that patients with midface concavity can have their aesthetic desires satisfied with pyriform implants. Here’s how:

Pyriform implants increase the convexity of the lower face.

Increasing the convexity of the midface makes the nose seem less prominent.

Pyriform implants increase the projection of the nasal base.

Pyriform implants increase the projection of the tip of the nose.

Pyriform aperture augmentation opens the nasolabial angle.

Pyriform (paranasal) implants alter the vertical plane of the lip.

When combined with other aesthetic procedures, such as rhinoplasty or cheek augmentation, pyriform (paranasal) augmentation can improve the overall outcome and lead to greater patient satisfaction.

The chin is the most apparent and most potentially aesthetic feature of the lower part of the face. In coordination with the nose, the chin determines the shape and profile of the entire face.

When the chin is too big, too small, too wide, or too narrow it affects the overall balance of all the person’s features. However, plastic surgery, including skillful and aesthetic use of chin implants can do wonders in achieving a defined and balanced profile.

One very important factor that must be kept in mind with any chin surgery is an understanding of the female chin and the male chin. The size and shape of the chin, in balance with other facial features help create a gender identity. This is why it’s so important to have any facial cosmetic procedure, including chin implants, performed by an experienced and aesthetically aware surgeon such as our surgeons.

Implants for a Receding Chin

Either from genetics or aging, an individual may find himself and herself with a receding chin – that is, a chin that is less pronounced and appears to slope backwards.

A receding chin can be brought forward in one of two ways, either by cutting the chin and sliding it forward (sliding genioplasty), or by adding a synthetic implant to the bone. Sliding genioplasty involves cutting bones and inserting metal plates and screws, it is much more aggressive than silicone chin augmentation.

Chin Implants Change the Shape of the Chin

Chin implants are also used to correct a variety of other aesthetically challenging situations:

Asymmetry of the jawline

A chin that appears too small for the rest of the face

A chin that has lost definition as an effect of aging

Fatty deposits under the chin

Jawline irregularity due to trauma, accident, or genetics

An imbalance between the lower and upper facial planes – strong upper facial features and a ‘weak’ chin

The large number of styles and sizes of chin implants available allow a great deal of flexibility in deciding how you want your chin to look. Chin implants are available to increase the amount of horizontal projection, offer some vertical lengthening, and increase or narrow the width of the chin – square, rounded, or with a narrow triangular shape.

Chin implant options include:

Central Chin Implants: This implant is available in the original chin implant shape and provides various degrees of chin projection.

Anatomical Chin Implants: Chin augmentation in conjunction with mild to moderate contouring of the front part of the jaw are provided with the use of this chin implant. Two wings positioned at 45-degree angles allow the implant to contour to the front portion of the mandibular bone (jawbone), which provides better stability and smoother lines.

Extended Anatomical Chin Implants: With the extended version of the anatomical implant, the ‘wings’ are extended in length to provide further enhancement of the jawline, and to create a more angular or square jawline structure. The wings taper along the lower mandibular ridge in a “wrap-around” design for better restoration of the mandibular support structure. This implant can also be used to correct the appearance of jowls.

Each implant is available in a selection of sizes, thicknesses, and projections.

Custom Implants: In addition to the chin implants just mentioned there are options available for customized chin implants. A CT scan can be used to help design a unique three-dimensional implant to correct any mandibular defects or asymmetries not addressed by the other implant models.

Who can benefit from chin augmentation surgery?

People born with poorly defined chin may desire mentoplasty for better facial balance. Procedure is sought after by women and men to correct receding chin and provide more attractive look of distinction. Sometimes procedure is performed for those born with congenital defects. Chin augmentation is frequently performed in combination with nasal surgery (rhinoplasty).*

How is mentoplasty performed?

The procedure is usually performed under intravenous sedation (light anesthesia) but can be performed under only local anesthesia with or without oral sedation. It is an outpatient surgery, with patients going to recover in the comfort of their homes within a couple hours from surgery. A single incision is either placed under the chin or inside the mouth for access to place the implant, which is made up of a very safe and stable silicone or a porous synthetic material. The size of the implant is typically pre-determined during a consultation performed with a help of a Mirror 3D imaging system. The implant is then inserted and secured in place before closing the incision.

Are chin implants safe?

Chin implants provide permanent correction of the receding chin and augment facial profile. For years they provide safe and predictable surgical procedure. Millions of implants have been placed worldwide, most of them made of silicone rubber or porous synthetic material (Porex). Similar materials are used for joint replacement and heart valves. They come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. During your consultation with Dr. Turowski, he will help you decide which implant is best for you.

How long is a recovery?

There is minimal postoperative discomfort, easily controlled with oral pain medications. Bruising is usually negligible, visible swelling may be present for a few days. A soft food diet may be required for several days as chewing maybe limited.

Chin Implant (Augmentation) – Before Surgery

First, Dr. Turowski will discuss the source of the difficulty and the correct implant and implant procedure will be determined – Chin implants can be inserted either from inside the mouth (intraoral) or under the chin (submental). Computer imaging of the profile view is of great value in determining how much chin advancement and the extent of reshaping needed. X-rays may also be used to help determine the surgical treatment plan.

Chin Implant – During Surgery

Chin augmentation surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis either under general anesthesia or a local anesthesia or/and IV sedation.

Incisions are typically placed either inside the mouth at the place where your gum meets the lower lip, or under the chin in the natural crease line where it will be hidden.

Once the implant is placed, the incisions are closed and bandages applied, as needed. Some sutures will dissolve on their own after a few weeks, while others may need to be removed on one of your return, check-up visits to the clinic.

The entire operation takes approximately an hour, unless it’s being done in combination with another procedure, such as a rhinoplasty or facelift.

Chin Implant – After Surgery

After your procedure, if it is performed under general anesthesia it is advised that you have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours. If it is performed under local anesthesia you can recover like after a dental procedure If the incisions were placed in your mouth, you will be restricted to a soft diet for a few days following surgery and you will need to rinse your mouth thoroughly after eating in order to keep the incision and sutures clean.

Any sutures placed within the mouth will dissolve on their own while any placed in the skin under the chin will be removed about a week following the operation.

Chin implants are normally very well tolerated and infection is rare.

Chin implant surgery is a highly successful surgical procedure for both men and women. It can be an almost miraculous procedure for someone who has lived their life with an underdeveloped, or misshapen chin or jaw line.

*Individual results may vary and there are no guarantees that you will experience the same results as those mentioned here.
The post Chin implants * first appeared on Dr Turowski - Plastic Surgery Chicago.

Augmentation rhinoplasty refers to surgery that uses cartilage or implants to increase one or more areas of the nose in patients who have low nasal height due to cosmetic variations, congenital defects, trauma, infection, or certain errors in a previous rhinoplasty.

Nasal augmentation, especially to the extent of requiring an implant, is more popular among Asian patients than Caucasians. Augmentation rhinoplasty among Caucasians is rare, and the amount of heightening is so modest as to require only small amounts of cartilage to create the desired effect.

On the other hand, nasal augmentation among Asian patients is more extensive. In some cases, a variety of implants to improve the nasal dorsum is often needed.

There are two commonly used methods of nasal augmentation; one is with cartilage grafting and the other is with nasal implants. Both work well for different situations.

Nasal implants may be required in cases where:

The patient has significant need of nasal augmentation

There is insufficient cartilage available in potential donor sites

The patient wants to avoid donor site harvest (usually from a rib)

Nasal Implant Procedure

Before the procedure, our surgeons will determine your own specific anatomical situation, including the front view and profile of your nose, nasal length, nasofrontal angle, nasal humps, and facial proportions. These will all be taken into consideration along with current cultural standards of beauty.

The most popular implants are made out of solid silicone material. Porex implants can be used in some cases.

Nasal implant surgery is performed in our fully accredited surgical facility and can be done under local or general anesthesia.

The length of time in surgery will depend on a number of factors including the number and types of implants and whether the procedure is being combined with other types of facial surgery.

Risks

Note that as with all other forms of surgery, nasal implant augmentation is not without risks. Although these are rare, potential risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, nasal deformity, and difficulty breathing. In rare cases implants might have to be exchanged or removed.

Recovery from Nasal Implant Surgery

Following your nasal implant surgery, the nose will be placed in a splint (cast) in order to allow it to heal without external interference or damage and to stabilize implant and reduce swelling. The cast will be removed on your 1-week post-operative visit.

You will experience some swelling in the area and breathing may be labored for a while. However, as the swelling goes down, you should notice a dramatic change in your ease of breathing. Most people are able to return to office type work about 10 days after the procedure and to full physical activities within a month.

*Individual results may vary and there are no guarantees that you will experience the same results as those mentioned here.
The post Nasal implants * first appeared on Dr Turowski - Plastic Surgery Chicago.
