Ultherapy is the new way to achieve tighter, firmer and better-looking skin, all with less downtime than after other procedures. This is not your typical neck or facelift. Instead, Ultherapy utilizes ultrasound technology as well as the body’s natural healing process to enhance and tone skin from within, without disturbing the actual surface of the skin. In order to achieve its magical results, the Ultherapy technology bypasses the outside skin layer and targets its focused ultrasound energy only on the deeper structural layers of the skin where collagen resides. This energy stimulates the growth of fresh collagen for younger looking skin. The ultrasound aspect of the procedure actually allows practitioners to see where they will treat the skin, much like how expectant mothers can view their babies when pregnant. This means that treatments are very targeted and lead to more natural results.

Although results are usually not as aggressive as after surgery, this is definitely a great option for patients looking for a less invasive procedure, which will still create amazing effects. In fact, Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved non-invasive procedure proven to lift skin on the neck, chin and brow. The Ultherapy procedure takes about 60-90 minutes and patients are able to return to normal activities immediately. While results continue to improve over several months, changes in the skin are already noticeable right after the procedure.

Body to scalp hair transplantation has gained huge recognition in the plastic surgery hair transplantation world. Although originally implemented in the 1990s, skilled surgeons worldwide have now begun regularly performing the procedure.

Although body to scalp hair transplantation is still not able to achieve as successful or predictable results as traditional scalp hair transplants, this is a good (sometimes the only) option for patients with lower or thinner scalp hair supplies. For many years, patients with severe baldness were turned away from hair transplants and now there is finally a way to help restore hair growth even for those with severe baldness.

Thanks to Neograft FUE technology, donor hair for the scalp can now be harvested from all over the body, including the chest, shoulders, beard, stomach, arms and legs. Robotic hair transplants cannot be performed from body at this time but it can change in the near future.

This harvested body hair is usually utilized as “filler hair” along with scalp hair but in severe cases, it can be used independently. Although less predictable than traditional procedures, body to scalp hair transplants have proven to be great options, which yield successful results for many patients suffering from less viable scalp hair.

Major benefits of body hair to scalp transplants:

Great option for patients with severe baldness, including patients who are bald as a result of other procedures or an accident

The FUE procedure is minimally invasive with minimal or not visible scars

The transplant does not use scalpels, knives, staples, stitches or other sutures

There is a quick recovery time and the donor site usually heals within a few days

Great option for eyebrow, beard, moustache transplants

Recent FUE technological advances have truly broadened the options available for patients interested in hair transplantation, especially men. Popular new procedures now include hair restoration of the beard, goatee and sideburns. These transplants are usually done for men who have genetic predispositions to having thin or nearly absent facial hair. Men may also have suffered facial hair loss from trauma to the face, which caused scarring or previous procedures such as cleft lip surgery, or a facelift that resulted in stunted hair growth.

The donor area for facial hair transplantation is usually the back and/or the sides of the head, depending on which hair is the closest match in texture and color. A common fear of patients is how natural the results will look and smooth their facial skin will be post shaving transplanted hair. These issues are prevented when FUE grafts are properly harvested by ARTAS robot or Neograft and placed at the correct angles at recipient sites, being careful to only transplant small sections at a time.

The facial hair transplantation procedure is very similar to the process used for other hair transplants. First, follicular units ae harvested uing FUE techniques from the back or side of the head. The harvesting of FU grafts from the scalp takes a couple of hours and the patient lies face down during the hair extraction. These harvested hairs are next planted at the recipient site. Any existing hairs at the recipient site, even very thin “peach fuzz,” can be incredibly helpful in guiding transplantation and ensure grafts are placed at the correct angle of facial hair growth. The immediate post-procedure results are basically equivalent to what a beard would look like after three days of no shaving. This allows patients to instantly evaluate the success of transplantation.

The most common complaint of facial hair transplant patients is that transplanted hair sticks out and away from the face rather than remaining flat against the skin. If this occurs, it is usually only in the mustache area because protruding lips and the mobility of the skin make correctly angled hair insertion difficult at this site. If there are any transplantation problems, hair is discarded or replanted to fix any misalignments. Any prolonged redness usually disappears after about two weeks, and often times much sooner. Shaving is permitted by the eighth day post procedure. Occasionally, patients receive touch up transplants, but most are happy after just one procedure.

Minimally Invasive Procedure with medical grade Sodium Bicarbonate

Microdermabrasion - How does it work?

Are you looking for a non-surgical way to freshen and rejuvenate the skin on your face or body? A Microdermabrasion treatment, a less aggressive approach than dermabrasion, uses minimally abrasive instruments to gently sand the skin and remove the thicker, uneven outer layer. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration and sun damage and even stretch marks.

One way to describe a microdermabrasian treatment is by imagining a very fine sand blaster. Microdermabrasian utilizes micro particles of medical grade crystals of baking soda to slough off the top layer (epidermis) of your skin and stimulate new skin growth. This technique also helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein, which is abundant when you are a child and makes appearance of skin taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin.

There is almost no discomfort in microdermabrasion, meaning you won’t need a topical or local anesthetic and there is no recovery or downtime.

We use Advanced Microderm, the only system engineered to utilize medical grade sodium bicarbonate’s all natural properties. Baking soda allows you to give the same depth of abrasion as aluminum oxide-without any of the potentially harmful side effects. Aluminum oxide is not to be used on the under-eye area and lips due to the potential risk of cornea scratches and crystal ingestion. Baking soda residue is not associated with either of these risks. In addition, it will not leave the skin red or irritated and is beneficial to helping treat acne. Once you have been treated with baking soda, you will never want to have another aluminum oxide treatment again.

Microdermabrasion results

Microdermabrasion can:

Eliminate age spots and black heads

Eliminate hyper pigmentation (patches of darkened skin)

Exfoliate your skin, resulting in a refreshed appearance

Lessen the appearance of stretch marks

Reduce fine lines and wrinkles

Reduce or eliminate enlarged pores

Treat acne and the scars left by acne

How many treatments are necessary to see results?

You will see results after the first treatment however the most dramatic results will be seen after about 3-6 treatments.

How often should Microdermabrasion be performed?

Once every 7-10 days for the first 4-5 treatments. After this initial treatment cycle, a maintenance schedule of about one treatment every 4-6 weeks is usually recommended.

LaserCap Overview

LaserCap™ is the only portable low-level laser device for thinning hair that is medically managed. It fits in any cap and is the only way to undergo Low Level Laser Light Therapy (LLLT) for hair growth on the go because it is completely portable and easy to use, hands-free.

The Device/How it Works

LaserCap™ features 224 individual 650nm 5mW lasers in a flexible, hermetically sealed dome shaped membrane that fits comfortably in almost any hat. It is powered by a small belt-clip battery pack and offers patients the low level laser power of an in office clinical unit in the comfort of your home. The team behind the LaserCap™ set out to develop a superior device with the power and coverage of an inoffice dome unit, but in a portable design. They designed a device that fits in a variety of hats and is powered by a portable battery pack. The entire target zone is treated throughout the duration of treatment, and the user can perform almost any activity during use, including walking, jogging, making dinner, working, and more.

LaserCap™ versus Other LLLT Devices

LaserCap™ versus FDA Cleared Home Device & FDACleared In-Office Dome – LaserCap™ uses the same laser diode wave-length and output power per laser as an FDA-cleared low-level-laser device for hair loss; however, LaserCap™ has 224 laser diodes versus 9 laser diodes in the FDA-cleared device and LaserCap™ treats the entire affected scalp simultaneously with an accurate and adjustable light dosmetry. LaserCap™’s dosimetry may be set significantly higher than the FDA cleared comb device and significantly higher than in office dome devices; this higher dosimetry combined with consistent regular use (i.e., patient compliance) may be essential for effectiveness, according to the photomedicine experts.

Patient Benefits

Completely portable & easy to use

Hands-free device

Fits comfortably in almost any hat

Discreet

Use at home, driving, exercising, anywhere!

No weekly trips back to the doctor’s office

Compatible with other hair loss therapies

What Experts Say

Robert Haber, MD // Respected Hair Restoration Surgeon // President, LaserCap™ Company “…LaserCap™ maximizes patient compliance since it is worn under any head cover (baseball cap, scarf, etc.) and is completely portable. Higher dosimetry combined with consistent regular use (patient compliance) may be essential for effectiveness…” TK Shiao MD // Respected Hair Restoration Surgeon // LaserCap™ User & Prescriber “…The bottom line is, low level laser therapy works. LaserCap™is the most practical solution for LLLT delivery…”

Paul Cotterill MD // Respected Hair Restoration Surgeon // LaserCap™ Prescriber ”…This laser has the potential to be one of the more efficient lasers at promoting hair growth and slowing hair loss.”

Russell Knudsen MBBS // Respected Hair Restoration Surgeon // LaserCap™ Prescriber “…I believe LaserCap™ has the potential to be the most effective home-use laser hair device because it overcomes the natural disadvantages of hand-held devices which only provide fleeting doses of light to the scalp… and in ongoing hair treatment programs, compliance (the ability to appropriately and easily use the
technology) is crucial. The technology won’t work if the customer finds it too hard to do on a regular basis…”

Michael Hamblin PhD // Harvard University Photomedicine Expert // LaserCap™ Science Advisor “…I believe that LaserCap™ is the most convenient device for delivering the light to the scalp as it does not require active combing but it is still a home use device, as contrasted with the (in-office) hairdryer-like hood…”

LaserCap™ is sold only by physicians to patients, and includes a 1 year unconditional return policy for 75% of the purchase price along with a 3 year warranty. LaserCap™ emits more than 25 times the total laser output of the leading laser comb and 2.5 times the power of the leading in-office laser dome device; and it’s easy, portable, discreet use makes compliance as simple as wearing a hat. LaserCap™ Kit includes a carrying case with a LaserCap™ within a hat, power pack, and charger, in an attractive carrying case.

Around 4 hours; however, you can plug it in overnight after use as the power pack has protection against overcharging.

Is LaserCapTM FDA cleared?

Not yet as the FDA clearance process takes some time; however there are two laser devices that have received FDA clearance for hair re-growth, a hand held comb like device with 9 lasers for men and an in office laser hood with 90 lasers for women. LaserCap™, with 224 individual lasers and uses the same type of laser as both these devices.

Why is LaserCap™a good option over a laser comb or in-office laser hood?

LaserCap™ is extremely convenient and time-effective. It takes the hassle of combing away, and gives uniform pulsing laser light output to the entire top of your head. It is significantly more time effective than going to a salon or office multiple times per week for months on end to receive treatment.

Is it safe to look at LaserCap™ lasers while on?

NO. DO NOT STARE DIRECTLY INTO THE LASERS.

How long do I need to use LaserCap™?

Once you quit LaserCap™ the effectiveness and gains could be lost.

How often do I need to use LaserCap™?

Use it according to your physician’s instructions. Typical use is every other day for 30 minutes.

Does LaserCap™ have to be fully charged for me to use it?

It is best to charge your powerpack before each use to assure you don’t run low on power during treatment.

How do I clean my LaserCap™?

Just wipe the surface of LaserCap™ with a moist cloth or alcohol wipe.

What is HairMax?

The HairMax is the first and only medical device cleared by the FDA and clinically proven to promote hair growth and treat androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as pattern baldness, or genetic hair loss.

Worldwide, hundreds of millions of people suffer from hair loss. Most hair loss is attributed to genetics, and is known as androgenetic alopecia, or pattern baldness.

Prior to the HairMax there were only two products accredited by the FDA to treat hair loss. The HairMax offers a third viable alternative that is safe, convenient, and clinically proven to be effective, and best of all – the HairMax is a one-time investment that is drug free, available without a prescription, and is free from adverse side effects.

In January 2007, the HairMax become the first ever medical device cleared by the FDA to promote hair growth and treat pattern baldness. Until then, only two products were recognized by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss in those suffering from pattern baldness. To receive FDA clearance, Lexington Intl., makers of the HairMax, conducted extensive clinical trials.

These clinical trials were multi-centred, double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies. Patients who were suffering from pattern hair loss were instructed to use the Hair Max three times per week, on non-consecutive days, for 10 to 15 minutes per treatment. To accurately measure the results, microscopic hair counts were taken, and the results were compared after 26 weeks of treatment.

The results were very impressive. Over 90% of the participants showed an increase in hair count. The average hair count was 19 new hairs per cm2 by the end of the trial. This led to the landmark clearance by the FDA, and solidified the HairMax as the newest FDA cleared treatment for genetic hair loss.

During the trials, none of the participants experienced any negative or adverse side effects and in fact, in addition to new hair growth, they reported that their hair felt healthier, and had more shine, bounce, and manageability. While the exact mechanism of action of the HairMax is still being researched, the results of Lexington’s clinical trials have led to several hypotheses on exactly how the HairMax works.

Hair loss and the hair cycle

The hair growth cycle consists of three phases – anagen, catagen, and telogen. During the anagen phase, the hair is in an active growth cycle, and in people without genetic hair loss continues to grow at an average rate of ½ inch per month. This phase lasts two to six years, as characterised by the growth of healthy, thick hairs.

The second phase is known as the categen, or ‘transitional’ phase. In this phase, the hair stops growing and waits to be shed. This phase generally lasts two to three weeks, while the new hair is formed.

The final phase of the hair growth cycle is known as the telogen, or ‘shedding’ phase. Here, the hair which was formerly in the categen phase is pushed out of the scalp by a new anegen hair. The average human sheds 50 to 100 hairs per day as a result of this phase.

In people with androgenetic alopecia or pattern hair loss, DHT and reduced blood flow choke the hair follicle, causing the new anegen hair to be significantly thinner. It is this cycle of hair fallout and progressive thinning of the individual hair follicle that leads to what is referred to as balding. Eventually, as the hair cycle repeats over time, the hairs become increasingly miniaturized and eventually cease to exist.

It is hypothesised that the laser light of the HairMax energises the new hair follicle, lengthening the anegen phase, producing a thicker, healthier hair. The HairMax acts as an anegen ‘inductor’, targeting the hair below the scalp at the follicular level, to reverse the cycle of miniaturization that is characteristic of pattern baldness.

At the base of the follicle is the dermal papilla layer. This layer is responsible for producing the cells which cause the hair to grow, and when these cells cease to function properly, the hair shaft begins to miniaturize, leading to hair loss. The HairMax is believed to promote healthy hair growth by stimulating the cells in this layer. The result is the thickening of formerly miniaturized hair follicles.

How to use the HairMax properly, to achieve maximum results?

Clinical research indicates that the HairMax works best when used three times per week for 10 to 15 minutes, every other day. The best time to use the HairMax is when the scalp is clean and free of gels, hairsprays, topical therapies, or other hair products. These gels and hairsprays can build up on the laser window, blocking the laser light. If this happens, unplug the HairMax and clean the window with a damp cloth.

To use the HairMax, press the power button, and wait for the green light to appear. After the device indicates that it has power, press the laser button, and a red light will illuminate. This indicates that the laser is on, and the product is ready to be used. Start at the front of the scalp, and advance the HairMax ½ inch every four seconds. For convenience, the HairMax comes equipped with an audible beep function which lets the user know when to advance.

The HairMax comes equipped with a patented teeth mechanism, which plows and parts the hair to ensure unobstructed delivery of laser energy to the scalp. Our studies show that without the teeth, as much as 90% of the laser energy can be blocked by the hair. For best results, the HairMax should be used on the entire scalp. After advancing the laser from the front of scalp to the back of the head, the process should be repeated. In total, treatment should last no longer than 10 minutes.

With continued usage, most users will start to see benefits in as little as 12 to 16 weeks. Benefits will include a decrease in shedding, and new hair growth which is healthier and more manageable. Remember, the key to seeing the best results is to use the HairMax consistently as recommended, for 10 to 15 minutes, three times per week.

The HairMax is best suited for those individuals that are still in the process of thinning or losing their hair. Here are what real users have to say about their experiences with the HairMax –

“Since I’ve started using the LaserComb I’ve noticed that the hair on the sides is starting to fill in where I needed it most, and I also noticed that the top of my scalp you can’t see through any more, whereas it was very spotty. At the same time, I’ve seen my hair get more manageable, easier to control, it seems to be growing faster; my haircuts are more frequent, and the overall appearance has improved”.

“The HairMax LaserComb took only about three months before I restored my hair to a point where I was comfortable jumping into the pool and letting people see my hair wet. The HairMax LaserComb has restored my confidence in the way I feel about myself”.

“I noticed my hair begin to thin out in the front hairline, and it was those vellus hairs that I was really concerned about. I had spoken to a friend of mine in the Midwest who sells lasers, and she recommended the LaserComb to me, and told me that a friend of hers who was a cosmetic surgeon recommended the LaserComb to all of his patients. Low and behold, I tried it out, and after about four months the front hairline began to thicken up, by about 20 to 25%. Since I’ve been using the HairMax LaserComb, I have not experienced as much hair loss as I had in the past. My hair’s growing a lot faster now, it’s definitely fuller, has better density, and it’s definitely easier to mend”.

You can be assured that the HairMax is completely safe. Lexington has been researching laser treatment for over 20 years. In all this time, there aren’t any reports of unwanted side effects, or adverse reactions. HairMax is also CE certified for electrical safety, and ISO compliant for international quality standards. The HairMax is proudly manufactured in the USA. Finally, Lexington Intl., maker of the HairMax, is a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau.

Longer, fuller, darker lashes.

Did you know?

Aging may affect lashes.

Lashes may thin over time.

Lashes may get shorter and lighter with age.

Are your lashes changing as you get older?

Ask yourself:

Have my lashes lost their fullness?

Do my lashes appear shorter?

Are my lashes lighter in color?

Do I have inadequate lashes?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you’re not alone.

Ask us if LATISSE is right for you.

You can’t reverse time, but you can grow your lashes in just 16 weeks!

LATISSE – the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes by making them longer, thicker, and darker. Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

How does it work?

LATISSE is believed to prolong the anagen phase (active growth phase) of your lashes. Eyelashes grow in a cycle. The normal eyelash growth cycle has 4 phases: anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen. The anagen phase is the active growth phase. LATISSE is believed to prolong this phase.

How soon will I see results?

The onset of LATISSE’s effects are gradual. In clinical trials, the majority of LATISSE users saw significant improvements in their lashes within 2 months, meaning more than double the fullness and thickness! Clinical trial results showed lashes that were: 106 % fuller, 25 % longer and 18% darker.

If you stop using LATISSE, your eyelashes are expected to slowly return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.

Important Safety Information:

If you are using prescription products for lowering eye pressure or have a history of eye pressure problems, only use LATISSE under close doctor supervision. LATISSE could cause eyelid skin darkening, which may be reversible and there is potential for increased iris pigmentation, which is likely to be permanent.

Applying LATISSE

Before applying LATISSE 0.03% daily, insure your face is clean and all makeup and contact lenses are removed.

Remove the applicator from its tray. Then, holding the sterile applicator horizontally, place 1 drop of LATISSE solution on the area of the applicator closest to the tip, but not on the tip.

Immediately draw the applicator carefully along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes (where the eyelashes meet the skin) going from the inner part of your lash line to the outer part.

Blot any excess solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue.

Dispose of the applicator after 1 use. Repeat for opposite eyelid, using a new, sterile applicator to help minimize any potential for contamination from 1 eyelid to another.

A Lip Lift is a good option for patients looking for a more permanent lip enhancement. This small surgical correction can be very rewarding, especially for aging patients. Often, with age, the upper lip tends to elongate. For example, if one were to compare the height of his or her lips during their twenties to that in their fifties or sixties, there is usually a considerable and visible increase in length and loss off pout as a person ages. A simple solution for lip enhancement is injection with either fillers (such as Juvederm) or fat injection. However, a filler will only last about 10 months and fat transfer has even more limitations. It is also important to remember that both of these filler procedures do not, in fact, shorten the lip but just enlarge it. A Lip Lift procedure truly corrects the problem of elongated lips and can even be beneficial to younger patients.

Lip Lift – FAQs:

What is a Lip lift?

A Lip Lift is a surgical procedure performed in order to shorten the height of elongated lips, enhance lip appearance and provide more pout.

How is it performed?

A Lip Lift is usually performed under local anesthesia. During the procedure, a segment of the upper lip skin under the nose is excised and removed and a new lip is reconstructed. The procedure takes about 45 minutes and one follow up procedure. The follow up is for the purpose of removing sutures placed under the nose and is usually done about 5 days after the Lip Lift.

What are the complications?

As with any surgical procedure, infection and bleeding are a risk but the chances of these side effects occurring are extremely low. There is a slight concern of a visible scar forming under the nose, but such a possible scar is usually hidden well in the creases of the naso-labial junction.

For millions of Americans, excessive sweating is a serious problem, which can interfere with all aspects of daily life. If you suffer from excessive sweating, you are not alone. In fact, excessive sweating, or Hyperhidrosis is a lot more common than you might think. Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition, which causes a person to sweat excessively and unpredictably. People presenting with this condition report sweating even at such times as when they are sitting at rest or when the temperature around them is cool. Over the years, many treatments have come out in order to help those suffering from hyperhidrosis. Several of these treatments, including Botox under the arms or aluminum chloride prescription anti-perspirants, have proven to be somewhat successful. However, many of these treatments do not have truly long-term effects. Finally, there is a lasting solution. Finally, there is miraDry.

The miraDry procedure is a safe and effective non-invasive outpatient procedure, which deactivates sweat glands of the underarms. The procedure is performed in three simple steps. First, the doctor draws temporary markings on the skin as a guide for treatment. Next, local anesthesia is administered for increased comfort. Lastly, the customized miraDry procedure is performed. The total appointment time is about an hour with the actual miraDry treatment lasting only about 40 minutes. The electromagnetic energy delivered to the underarms targets and deactivates sweat glands. The sweat glands of the underarms are essentially eliminated and because these glands do not regenerate, miraDry’s effects are truly long lasting and effective. This is a safe and non-invasive procedure.

According to Miramar Labs, the producers of miraDry, deactivating the sweat glands of the underarms (only about 2% of the body’s sweat glands) does not affect the body’s overall temperature regulation system. Patients usually notice positive effects immediately. Finally, there is a safe and truly effective solution to the highly common and irritating condition of excessive sweating.

FAQ – MiraDry – nonsurgical permanent excessive sweating reduction

What is the miraDry procedure?

The miraDry procedure is a safe and effective non-invasive outpatient procedure, which deactivates sweat glands of the underarms. MiraDry offers the longest lasting and best results for excessive underarm sweating. This is a very easy procedure that is performed right in your doctor’s office. The customized treatment is performed using a miraDry system hand piece, which delivers precise electromagnetic energy to the underarms to target and deactivate sweat glands. Essentially, miraDry eliminates underarm sweat glands because these glands are not able to regenerate.

What can I expect the procedure to feel like?

The miraDry procedure is a safe and easy solution to excessive underarm sweating. The procedure involves no painful cuts or incisions. The deliverance of electromagnetic energy to the underarms is customized for each patient. In order to eliminate the possibility of any pain, local anesthesia is applied to the area prior to starting the procedure. You can expect the entire appointment to last about an hour. In order to maximize results, most patients are advised to return for a touch-up procedure about three months after the original treatment.

What happens when I’m done with the procedure?

Not only does miraDry result in lasting effects, the procedure also requires very little recovery time. Your doctor may recommend some over-the-counter pain medication or ice packs to use on the treated area because some minimal swelling or soreness is normal. Some patients have also reported some short-term altered sensations in the underarms. Despite these minor possible issues, most patients report beneficial results immediately.

What results can I expect?

Most patients report a drastic reduction in underarm sweating almost immediately following the miraDry procedure. As with any medical treatment, results may vary by patient. In one recent clinical study, the average sweat reduction reported was 86%.

How long will my results last?

The results of the miraDry procedure are long lasting because miraDry deactivates and eliminates sweat glands from the underarms. These eliminated sweat glands cannot regenerate and therefore there is a dramatic and lasting decrease in the amount of sweat able to be produced by the underarms.

Isn’t it harmful to deactivate underarm sweat glands?

There are about 4 million sweat glands on your body. Only about 2% of these glands are located in the underarms and eliminating this miniscule amount will not affect your body’s abilities to cool itself.

Can miraDry only be used on my underarms?

Currently, the miraDry procedure is recommended for patients that are 18 years and over and suffer from excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis). MiraDry cannot be used to treat excessive sweating in other parts of the body.

Why is miraDry my best option for my problem with excessive sweating?

Unlike other treatments, miraDry has a lasting reducing effect on excessive underarm sweating. The goals of other procedures for sweating are to temporarily disable sweat glands or surgically remove these glands. MiraDry is a safe, non-invasive procedure that permanently deactivates sweat glands.

Is this procedure right for me?

MiraDry is recommended to patients 18 years and older who suffer from excessive underarm sweating. If you suffer from excessive sweating, you are not alone. Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition, which causes a person to sweat excessively and unpredictably. People presenting with this condition report sweating even at such times as when they are sitting at rest or when the temperature around them is cool. If excessive sweating is interfering with your daily life, talk to your doctor about if the miraDry treatment is right for you.

As we age the volume of our faces decreases, resulting in a hollow, tired look. It is comparable to a balloon deflating leaving wrinkles and folds. In the past we have tried to correct this aging appearance with facial fillers. Sculptra Aesthetic is a new facial injectable approved by the FDA. It is unique from other facial injectables because of it’s ability to safely replace lost collagen over time. We call this product a “volumizer,”not a filler. Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic biodegradable polymer that is both absorbable and biocompatible. This same substance has been used in absorbable sutures in surgical procedures for over twenty years. These small particles of ply-L-lactic acid are rehydrated in a sterile water solution, which allows us to safely inject unique areas of the face which have lost facial fat. The injections are performed over 3 to 4 treatment sessions separated by 6 to 8 weeks.

Sculptra’s ability to stimulate collagen production results in a fuller more volumized face. The results are not a “quick fix”,but gradually improve the lost facial fat and volume over time with each injection session. The results are a natural looking appearance. Studies have shown that results may last up to 24 months. Periodic touch ups will help maintain the new natural appearance of a more youthful face.

Peripheral nerves

What is a Peripheral Nerve?

Nerves run throughout the body, carrying messages for movement and sensation. The nervous system is divided into two parts – the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.

The central nervous system lies in the “center” of the body and is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system extends out from the central nervous system to the extremities, such as the abdomen, groin, knee hands and feet.

Peripheral Nerve Problems?

As nerves travel through the body, certain areas along their course are “tighter” than others, causing problems for the nerve and its function. In these areas, nerve compression can result, characterized by numbness, tingling or chronic pain. Areas of tightness can be in the groin, hands, feet or legs. One of the most common types of compression is carpal tunnel syndrome. Factors leading to nerve compression include diabetes, trauma or injury, chemotherapy, toxins or conditions which are unknown. In many diabetics, the nerves supplying the extremities of the body swell and stiffen, leading to the same symptoms as nerve compression. This condition is known as diabetic neuropathy. For some patients the pain and numbness from diabetic neuropathy is treatable, but not every patient is a candidate for surgery.

Some peripheral nerve problems are due to injured nerves, not due to compression. In those cases, a neuroma can result. This is an abnormal swelling of an injured nerve, resulting in pain, paresthesias (zinging sensation), and numbness. In that case, the injured nerve is typically found, trimmed back, and buried in muscle and soft tissue to prevent it from causing further pain.

Neuromas and Morton’s Neuroma?

When a nerve is cut, the piece of nerve that is beyond the cut point eventually dies, however, the cut end of nerve will send out multiple sprouts in the direction of the nerve growth factor in all directions and eventually cluster and form a knot of nerve fibres. This eventually leads to the formation of a neuroma. If it is in a place on your foot where you put a lot of pressure, it will become very painful. Morton’s Neuroma is another type of peripheral nerve problem in the foot. The pain is caused by the repetitive compression of the common plantar digital nerve. This nerve lies between the heads of the metatarsal bones. Consequently, the neuroma that develops is not a true neuroma, but rather a manifestation of chronic nerve compression.

We Provide Surgical Treatments For:

Chronic Headache (Occipital, Frontal or Temporal Neuralgia) Upper & Lower Extremity Neuropathies: Carpal, Cubital, Tarsal Tunnel Diabetic Symptomatic Neuropathy (Extremity Numbness and/or Pain) Groin Pain Following Surgery (Inguinal hernia, Hysterectomy, Abdominoplasty) Knee pain following Knee Replacement Amputation Stump Pain, Foot Drop, Meralgia Paresthetica Peripheral Nerve Tumors, Brachial Plexus Injury, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Acute Nerve Injury Following Surgery or Trauma

Upper Extremity

What Causes This Type Of Pain?

There are several nerve related problems that affect the upper extremities. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the most common. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome causes numbness and tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers. Many times these sensations in the hand awaken patients at night, or their hands may go to sleep during normal activities. This numbness and tingling may come and go, or may be present all the time. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by the median nerve being pinched or compressed at the wrist in the “Carpal Tunnel”.

Numbness in the little and ring finger may be attributed to Cubital Tunnel Syndrome which causes numbness and tingling in the little finger and the ring finger. Patients may experience weakness in their grip, begin to drop objects, and have trouble opening doors or jars. Also fine motor skills such as buttoning shirts may be difficult. Cubital Tunnel is caused by the ulnar nerve being pinched or compressed at the elbow in the “Cubital Tunnel”.

Radial Tunnel Syndrome causes numbness and tingling in the back of the hand. This is caused by compression of the radial nerve on the forearm in the “Radial Tunnel”.

Many patients have pain in all three nerve distributions referred to as neuropathy. Neuropathy is caused by systemic diseases, the most common of which is diabetes. Patients who are “Pre-diabetic” (those who are overweight with high cholesterol and high blood pressure) exhibit neuropathy symptoms similar to that of diabetic patients. Other causes of neuropathy can include chemotherapy (Vincristine, Thalidomide, Taxol and Cisplatin are common chemotherapy medications that have been proven to cause neuropathy), certain forms of arthritis, thyroid disorders, leprosy, alcoholism, drug use, heavy metal toxicity, and vitamin deficiencies. Still there are many types of neuropathy in which the cause is not known. This is referred to as idiopathic neuropathy.

There are two main types of neuropathy. The first is when the nerve itself has a problem with the body attacking the lining of the nerves. This is a small fiber neuropathy which cannot be treated with surgery. The second is a “Compressive Neuropathy” which is caused by pressure on the nerve like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This type of neuropathy may be treatable by surgically relieving the areas of compression on the nerves caused by the surrounding tissues. Diabetics and “pre-diabetics” often get compression neuropathies. This is because in diabetics the nerves are swollen. When sugar (glucose) from the blood goes into the nerve it changes to sorbitol (another sugar). This chemical reaction causes a greater number of water molecules to enter the nerve causing swelling. The swollen nerves run through tight anatomical tunnels in the body. When swollen nerves are in tight tunnels they get compressed causing pain and numbness. By releasing the areas of compression, (the tight tunnels) sensation can be restored and pain decreased. This is the same operation has been done for carpal tunnel syndrome for many years. The success rate of nerve decompression surgery for diabetic and “pre-diabetic patients is in the eighty-percent range. Decompression of the nerves can reduce or eliminate pain and improve.

Are There Non-Surgical Treatment Options?

Patients usually first try Carpal Tunnel splints at night and during repetitive motions such as typing. Some patients wrap a towel around the elbow to prevent it from being bent at night while sleeping to relieve the pressure in the ulnar nerve. Patients who have neuropathy should first consult their primary care doctor to determine if their type neuropathy is caused by an underlying disease that can be treated, such as a thyroid disorder, vitamin deficiency

Lower extremity

Multiple nerve-related problems can affect the lower extremities. Peripheral neuropathy, Morton’s neuromas and nerve injuries/neuromas (due to trauma or surgery) are some of the conditions that respond to surgical treatments, decreasing, and in many cases eliminating, pain.

Neuropathy

What Causes Neuropathy?

Many types of neuropathy are caused by chronic diseases, the most common of which is diabetes. Patients who are “Pre-diabetic”, those who are overweight with high cholesterol and high blood pressure exhibit neuropathy symptoms similar to that of diabetic patients. Other causes of neuropathy can include chemotherapy (Vincristine, Thalidomide, Taxol and Cisplatin are common chemotherapy medications that have been proven to cause neuropathy), Lyme’s disease, certain forms of arthritis, thyroid disorders, leprosy, alcoholism, drug use, heavy metal toxicity, and vitamin deficiencies. Still there are many types of neuropathy in which the cause is not known. This is referred to as idiopathic neuropathy.

Compressive neuropathy is caused by pressure on the nerve similar to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This type of neuropathy can be corrected by surgically relieving the areas of compression on the nerves caused by the surrounding tissues. Diabetics and “pre-diabetics” most commonly have compression neuropathies. By releasing the areas of compression (the tight tunnels) sensation can be restored and pain decreased. This is the same operation has been done for carpal tunnel syndrome for many years. The success rate of nerve decompression surgery for diabetic and “pre-diabetic” patients is in the eighty-percent range. Decompression of the nerves can reduce or eliminate pain, improve sensation and balance and prevent ulcerations and amputations.

Are There Non-Surgical Treatment Options for Neuropathy?

Patients should first consult their primary care doctor to determine if their type neuropathy is caused by an underlying disease that can be treated, such as a thyroid disorder, vitamin deficiency or diabetes. Treatment of the disease can frequently provide relief for the symptoms. Some anesthesia pain management doctors have medical treatment options for those patients who are not healthy enough to undergo surgery or for those who are not good surgical candidates.

Who Is A Candidate For Neuropathy Surgery?

Surgery is an option once it is determined that your neuropathy is a “Compression Neuropathy” and that you are a good candidate for surgery. There are different physical examination and neurologic tests that together determine if you are likely to benefit from surgery.

What Can I Expect During and After Neuropathy Surgery?

Nerve decompression surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes about two hours. A general anesthetic is administered by an Anesthesiologist and using microsurgical techniques 3-4 incisions are made: one on the top of the foot, one up by the knee on the outside of the leg, one by the calf, and one on the inside of the ankle. Once the nerve is identified, it is followed to the area of compression and the tight band (the top of the tunnel) that is compressing the nerve is released, similar to what is done during carpal tunnel surgery. After the surgery, a simple compressive dressing is placed on the leg and the patient is transferred to the recovery room. There are some patients that notice an immediate difference in there pain as they wake up in the recovery room, others it can take up to several months depending on the amount of compression and the degree of nerve damage from the compression. The patient is sent home and asked to use a walker or crutches for the first week to minimize the amount of pressure placed on the operative leg. After the first week the dressing is removed and the patient may get back into a normal shoe and sock. The final sutures are removed 2-3 weeks after surgery and at this time the patient is released to normal activity. Patients are allowed to immediately walk on the operated leg but we try and limit activity and bending at the ankle to allow proper wound healing.

As the nerves regenerate and grow some patients may experience neuro-regenerative sensations such as shooting, stabbing or electrical types of pain. This is a good sign showing the nerve is growing. As the nerve continues to grow, the numbness the patient had before surgery will improve and the neuro-regenerative pain will improve.

Are There Any Risks Involved With Neuropathy Surgery?

The biggest risk with this operation is that patients may still be left with areas of pain or numbness or there might be no change at all in the amount of numbness and/or pain. The most common risks associated with any type of surgical procedure include minor infections and scaring. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, may slow the healing process increasing the risk of infection. Other risks include an increase in pain (which is usually the progression of the neuropathy and not an operative complication) or DVT which are very uncommon.

Morton’s Neuromas

What Causes Morton’s Neuromas?

Morton’s Neuroma is another type of peripheral nerve problem in the foot caused by the repetitive compression of the common plantar digital nerve. This nerve lies between the heads of the metatarsal bones. Consequently, the neuroma that develops is not a true neuroma, but rather chronic nerve compression. Tight shoes and high heels can intensify this type of pain. If the Morton’s Neuroma has already been operated on by another physician and he/she cut the nerve, then the Morton’s Neuroma is a true neuroma and the nerve needs to be resected. For this type of Morton’s Neuroma see the next section on nerve injuries.

Are There Non-Surgical Treatment Options for Morton’s Neuromas?

Morton’s Neuroma symptoms can often be alleviated by wearing flat, wide-toe shoes or Orthotic devices made by a podiatrist. Other treatments include the use of arch supports or custom-fitted shoes to redistribute weight away from the area.

Who Is A Candidate For Morton’s Neuroma Surgery?

Patients who are under the age of 75 that are in good health with abnormal physical and neurologic tests are typically good surgical candidates.

What Can I Expect During and After Morton’s Neuroma Surgery?

Morton’s Neuroma surgery is an outpatient procedure taking about and hour. A general anesthetic is used in most cases though in rare instances a spinal block may be used. Once the nerve is identified, the area of compression is released. A dressing is placed and the patient is transferred to the recovery room. There are some patients that notice an immediate difference in there pain as they wake up in the recovery room, others it can take up to several months depending on the amount of compression and the amount of time since the compression presented. The patient is sent home and asked to use a walker or crutches for the first week to minimize the amount of pressure placed on the operative foot. After the first week the dressing is removed and the patient may put on a shoe and sock. The final sutures are removed three weeks after surgery and at this time the patient is released to normal activity.

Are There Any Risks Involved With Morton’s Neuroma Surgery?

The biggest risk with this operation is that patients may still be left with areas of pain or there is no change in the amount of pain. The most common risks associated with any type of surgical procedure include bleeding, infection and scaring. Other risks include an increase in pain (which is usually the progression of the neuropathy not an operative complication) or DVT which are very uncommon.

Nerve Injury

What Causes Nerve Pain Due To An Injury?

When a nerve gets injured due to a traumatic injury or surgery the damaged portion of the nerve, the neuroma, causes shooting, stabbing and/ or throbbing pain. There are operations for some of these nerve injuries that can decrease and in most cases eliminate the pain.

Are There Non-Surgical Treatment Options for Nerve Injury Pain?

Patients should first consult their primary care doctor to determine if the cause of the pain is nerve related. Also there are pain management specialists that may be able to help to diagnose and sometimes manage the pain especially for patients that are not good surgical candidates.

Who Is A Candidate For Nerve Surgery?

Surgery is an option once it is determined that the pain is from a neuroma and that you are a good candidate for surgery. Nerve blocks are used to determine which nerve is causing the pain. This is done by injecting the area surrounding the nerve with a local anesthesia similar to what a dentist would use on a patient undergoing dental work. The nerve block should last several hours and will allow the patient to see how the involved are will feel after surgery. After several hours the pain that existed before the block will return.

Patients that are in good health and have appropriate responses to the local anesthesia block may be good candidates for surgery.

What Can I Expect During and After Nerve Surgery?

Neuroma surgery is an outpatient procedure taking about and hour. A general anesthetic is administered by an Anesthesiologist. Using microsurgical techniques the damaged nerve is identified, and the neuroma is cut out and the nerve is buried into muscle. A dressing is placed and the patient is transferred to the recovery room. There are some patients that notice an immediate difference in there pain as they wake up in the recovery room, others it can take up to several months.

Are There Any Risks Involved With Nerve Surgery?

The biggest risk with this operation is that patients may still be left with areas of pain or there is no change in the amount of pain. The most common risks associated with any type of surgical procedure include bleeding, infection and scaring. Other risks include an increase in pain or DVT which are very uncommon. Unfortunately some patients may continue to have pain and their body never responds to removing the nerve. These patients are often thought to have “centralized pain” which means their pain will not respond to procedures done on the nerve itself and instead need these patients need the expertise of a pain management specialist.

What is EVOLENCE®?

EVOLENCE® dermal filler represents a breakthrough in treating the effects of aging by replacing the collagen you’ve lost with collagen that lasts. A truly novel dermal filler, EVOLENCE® can immediately improve and refresh your appearance by smoothing out and softening unwanted wrinkles and folds, and restoring structure and facial contour in volume-depleted areas. The visible, natural-looking results are achieved immediately, with minimal-to-no downtime, so you can get right back to your daily activities. These immediate results last for at least 6 months (and 50% in one year), so you can avoid the costly repeat treatments often associated with other fillers and your desired results may be achieved in just 1 visit. Remember results may vary.

Why is collagen so important for achieving a refreshed, youthful apperance?

Collagen is nature’s most fundamental and abundant building block. In fact, collagen makes up 70% to 80% of the skin’s dermis, providing structure, strength, and support. Collagen depletes naturally over time as we age, leading to a tired or aged appearance. This happens through the formation of new wrinkles and folds, and changes in facial contour and structure. The natural pace of collagen loss can be accelerated by such factors as sun exposure, genetics, hormonal changes, and smoking. By replacing lost collagen with an advanced collagen compound, EVOLENCE® dermal filler can help enhance and maintain the structure, volume, and naturally younger-looking appearance of your skin.

What makes EVOLENCE® different?

EVOLENCE® dermal filler is made of natural collagen, one of the most prevalent materials in your body. The advanced collagen in EVOLENCE® has been naturally cross-linked, so it mimics the 3-dimensional structure of your skin’s own collagen. This allows it to integrate beautifully and support your skin’s own existing collagen network by adding structure, strength, and volume for a natural look and feel that last. The unique collagen of EVOLENCE®:

Achieves immediate, natural-looking results, so you can walk out of your aesthetic professional’s office looking beautifully refreshed

Causes minimal-to-no swelling or bruising, so you can get right back to daily activities

Does not require a skin pre-test, so you can get results in 1 visit

Although new to the US, EVOLENCE® has been used extensively in Canada, Europe, and Israel for several years.

Where is EVOLENCE® used?

EVOLENCE® is recommended for the correction of moderate-to-deep facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, the ones that appear from your nose to the corners of your mouth (“smile lines”).

Is EVOLENCE® right for me?

Dr Gregory Turowski and the team of physicians at new Horizons will help you determine the best treatment approach for achieving your desired results. Together, you may decide EVOLENCE® dermal filler is right for you if you are seeking a refreshed and naturally younger-looking you. The visible results are immediate—with minimal-to-no downtime post-treatment.

What Is Juvéderm™ Injectable Gel?

As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish as wrinkles and folds form. But, with Juvéderm™ injectable gel, you don’t have to just sit back and let it happen! Recently approved by the FDA, Juvéderm™ injectable gel is a “next-generation” dermal filler. The smooth consistency gel helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).?. Developed with safety and longevity in mind, Radiesse is a new generation of injectable filler that features superior versatility for both cosmetic and reconstructive use without surgery.

Juvéderm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Your healthcare professional eases Juvéderm™ injectable gel under the skin to provide a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice (but no one will know)! In fact, studies show superior results of Juvéderm™ compared to a collagen-based dermal filler.* And, almost 90% of all study volunteers who were treated with both Juvéderm™ injectable gel and another dermal filler* preferred Juvéderm™! In addition, Juvéderm™ injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.

JUVEDERM™ dermal filler, a ‘next generation’ hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved by the FDA in June 2006, contains the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any dermal filler currently available. These attributes provide optimal results with a single treatment of JUVEDERM™ in the majority of patients and deliver sustained results for up to six months or longer.

In addition, JUVEDERM™ dermal filler is the only hyaluronic acid dermal filler developed using a proprietary, technologically advanced manufacturing process that results in a malleable smooth gel that flows easily into the skin, creating a smooth, natural look and feel. All other currently approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers utilize a gel particle suspension formulation Juvederm is an excellent treatment option for:

Lip enhancement

Deep folds

Facial lines

Wrinkle correction

Volume augmentation of the lips

Shaping facial contours (such as cheeks and chin correcting)

Smile lines (correcting thin, superficial lines around the eyes, mouth and forehead)

MicroLaserPeel treats skin conditions associated with aging and active life styles. MicroLaserPeel is the ideal treatment for those patients that want improved skin with immediate lasting results, little time off, discomfort, or post-treatment care.

Why Profile ContourTM?

Sciton Contour – 2940 Er:Yag is the most versatile system available for MicroLaserPeel and full resurfacing. Profile’s unique technology allows you to select precise levels of ablation and coagulation, while the computer guided scanner ensures maximum precision and treatment uniformity. User selectable depth, rate, and scan pattern make Sciton’s MicroLaserPeel simple, safe, and reproducible.

Does this sound like you?

“I’ ve always been active. Years ago I was unaware of the effects of sun and wind on my skin. Although I don’t feel as old as I sometimes look I’m not ready for surgery or a long recovery process, but I’d love to look as young as I feel!” The “weekend” skin peel, the MicroLaserPeel, treats skin conditions associated with aging and an active lifestyle. You can see real improvements in just a few days.

What is the MicroLaserPeel?

It is a minimal to full epidermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratoses,or pigmentation problems.

Who should consider a MicroLaserPeel?

The patient looking for better results than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels can offer, yet, still has little time for the healing process.

How is the MicroLaserPeel different from Microdermabrasion?

Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer (stratum corneum, 10-15 microns) of the skin. Patients may become dissatisfied when the perceived results do not equal expense and the number of procedures required.

The MicroLaserPeel is a minimal to full epidermal peel (20-50 microns). Because this procedure goes deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper peels.

How often does a MicroLaserPeel need to be done?

One procedure could be sufficient for at least 6 to12 months, but additional procedures can be performed as required. A package of three to four treatments may be best for you. Your physician will determine what is necessary.

What can the patient expect?

Smoother, healthier more vibrant skin. You will notice a significant and immediate change in skin texture and tightness when compared to microdermabrasion.

What type anesthesia is used?

A topical anesthetic is applied thirty to 45 minutes before the procedure.Micro Peel can also be performed under sedation or anesthesia during other cosmetic procedures.

Do I have to wear any type of dressing or bandage after the procedure?

No! Your physician will prescribe an ointment such as Aquafore or Vaseline. This is used as a barrier to keep the air away from your skin while you grow new epithelium. You will probably use it for one to two days. After that, a moisturizer can be used.

How long is the healing process?

The healing process varies from patient to patient but will generally take from two to four days. The procedure can be performed on Thursday or Friday and you can return to work the following Monday. Immediately following the procedure you will feel as if you have a bad sunburn. You will have minor sloughing and itchiness the following day. By day two, redness will begin to fade and by day three any redness can be easily covered by makeup.

Depending on the size of these unsightly vessels, Dr Turowski may decide to treat the patient with laser, sclerotherapy, or combination of both. Sometimes, surgical removal of the enlarged vessels may be necessary. Sclerotherapy is a technique in which sclerant solution is injected into small vessels of the legs resulting in obliteration of vessels.

What are the advantages of Lumenis’ Nd:YAG technology?

Lumenis’ proprietary Nd:YAG technology provides multiple synchronized pulsing to selectively heat blood vessels of different sizes and depths. The wavelength of light and pulsing characteristics of the system allow the energy to be virtually invisible to the epidermal melanin, thus protecting the skin and allowing treatment of all skin types and tanned skin. Normally only a few pulses of the laser are required to achieve complete closure and sealing of the vessels. The sapphire cooled Nd:YAG treatment head, increases patient comfort.

How does high-tech laser/light technology compare to traditional sclerotherapy?

The combined light sources of IPL and Nd:YAG offer important benefits over injection therapy. The combination of IPL and Nd:YAG therapy allows treatment of injectable leg veins as well as matting and small spider vessels that are often too small to inject. In addition laser / light therapy is fast, less painful; minimally invasive without needles; and typically does not require compression wrapping.

Restylane – A natural beauty lift

Impressions of beauty change with time – as do our faces as we age. With RESTYLANE, you can have a natural beauty lift with the body’s own material. RESTYLANE is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe to your skin.

Since it was launched in 1996, RESTYLANE has undergone extensive histological and clinical studies with an increasing body of evidence relating to its ease of use, tolerability and effectiveness. Today, more than 1,500,000 treatments have been successfully carried out worldwide.

Restylane is a clear gel plant extract containing hyaluronic acid that is used to fill facial wrinkles, scars and enhance lips. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally occurring in our body that traps water in the skin. As we age the skin produces less of the acid along with diminished production of collagen and elastin. This results in loss of volume, sagging skin and wrinkles. Restylane can help to temporarily diminish appearance of wrinkles by replenishing the lost volume.

How the procedure is performed?

Restylane is injected using a fine needle. It is injected directly under the wrinkle or scar. In case of lips, lips and immediate lip area are injected. Topical or local anesthetic can be used to numb the area. The procedure takes about 15-30 minutes and does not require any recovery time. Mild stinging is common but usually well tolerated. Redness and mild swelling, if any, can usually disappears in 24 hours. Makeup can be applied immediately after the procedure.

How long the Restylane lasts?

Once injected, Restylane integrates within the skin and attracts water. The results are immediate. With time the filler is reabsorbed without a trace. Depending on an individual the results may last from 6-8 months. Further injections or additions of the product can be performed at any time without additional risk.

What are possible side effects of the Restylane injections?

Side effects may include bruising, redness and pain at the injection site. Swelling that lasts up two few days may occur after injection of Restylane into the lips. Since Restylane contains naturally occurring skin substance, hypersensitivity to the product is rare.

Radiesse is the newest non-surgical facial-contouring filler that delivers an immediate and longer lasting result.

Whether you’re longing to reverse the common signs of aging or address a health issue that would otherwise require invasive treatment, you have more options for looking and feeling better with Radiesse. Developed with safety and longevity in mind, Radiesse is a new generation of injectable filler that features superior versatility for both cosmetic and reconstructive use without surgery. What sets Radiesse apart from other dermal fillers? The answer is in its durability, longevity, and versatility. The unique composition of Radiesse provides the immediate visual improvement common with other fillers, plus the benefit of long-lasting results. This is because Radiesse is made of very tiny smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. The microspheres (particles) form a scaffold through which your body’s own collagen grows, and this produces the desired long-term effect. These unique advantages make Radiesse the ideal choice for facial shaping and contouring, along with other therapeutic applications.

For facial contouring, Radiesse can be used for:

Nasolabial folds

Marionette lines

Cheek augmentation

Non-surgical rhinoplasty

Jaw line

Chin augmentation

No matter what procedure you’re considering, Radiesse features unmatched versatility and years of extensive research and testing to prove its safety and effectiveness. Any form of facial contouring with Radiesse is performed as a non-surgical, minimally-invasive out-patient procedure in a physician’s office. Results are immediate and only require a few treatments with long-lasting effects, which means that Radiesse is also cost-effective, thus saving you time and money. And while treatment results may vary, results typically last months longer with Radiesse, as compared to other fillers. Radiesse currently has the following FDA clearances:

Oral/Maxillofacial Defects

Vocal Fold Insufficiency

Radiographic Tissue Marking

Radiesse is FDA approved for the Facial Aesthtics to include the
treatment of Facial Wrinkles, Folds, and Facial wasting.

What is a CO2 Laser?

CO2 lasers have been used for many years in Medicine. This specific wavelength of light is well absorbed by water. Because of this characteristic they have been used in surgery as a cutting device and in skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. Our skin is 80% water and the CO2 wavelength is attracted to this. In the earlier years when this laser was first introduced for skin rejuvenation, the top layer of the skin, the epidermis, was vaporized or ablated. By removing this entire layer, new tighter, brighter skin replaced the old. Patients had increased collagen production, with a tightening effect, abnormal pigment was removed and wrinkles were markedly reduced. Unfortunately, the “down time” of this treatment was well over 2 weeks, with residual redness lasting as long as 3 months in some patients. Complications also occurred too frequently and the area of treatment was limited to only facial skin. The tightening and resurfacing accomplished with this laser are still considered the gold standard, due to the remarkable results achieved, despite the complications that can occur. With progress of technology, we now have an alternative that can accomplish similar results with a very low risk and complication profile. This new laser uses the same CO2 wavelength in a fractional manner.
In fractional laser resurfacing the laser beam is broken up or fractionated into many small micro beams which separate as they hit the skin. Think of this as Pixels in digital photography or the board in a checkers game. We create thousands of tiny microscopic laser wounds, spaced evenly across the skin, but leaving areas of healthy untreated skin between them. This untreated skin donates migrating cells that quickly heal the injured skin from the sides, not just the bottom. This process, called re-epethielation, occurs over 4 to 5 days, instead of 2 weeks, as in the traditional CO2 laser. The new skin is tighter, the texture finer, pores are decreased in size, and pigmentation markedly improved.

How many treatments will I need?

Unlike traditional ablative CO2 laser treatments, more than one treatment may be needed to obtain the optimal results. Each treatment is individualized. The percent of skin coverage chosen will determine if one or two treatments will be necessary. In many patients one treatment can accomplish dramatic improvement.

Is this treatment painful?

The “pins and needle”, heat sensation felt during this treatment is tolerated by many patients. To relieve any discomfort, a combination of oral pain medication, topical anesthetic, and anesthetic injections can be used. The treatment is completed in 30 to 40 minutes.

How soon can I return to my normal activities?

This intense treatment will require some “down time”. Since we are ablating and removing some of the top layers of the skin, 3 to 5 days will be needed to allow the new skin to grow and heal. After a few days of your face appearing sun-blistered, the skin will gradually repair and rebuild. In these first few days, topical ointments are applied. Once the new layer of skin forms and peeling is complete, the skin will appear red for up to 2 weeks. Make-up can be applied to hide this.

Can this laser be used on other skin surfaces?

Yes! This laser has been found safe on all skin surface, including neck, arms, hands, chest, and back.

How long will the results last?

The skin will continue to repair and rebuild itself from the inside out over the next several months. This will allow for stimulation of new collagen to occur, resulting in a tighter, smoother, more uniform surface appearance. The changes that occur in the epidermis and dermis are permanent. Good skin care and sun-protection will help maintain the results for years.

If you are looking for a tighter, firmer, smoother skin without going under surgery, Velasmooth is the option for you! This treatment reduces the appearance of cellulite to safely and effectively re-contour the skin’s surface.

Velasmooth tm is new and revolutionary medical device that safely and effectively treats cellulite. VelaSmooth uses the elos technology of combined energies – Bi-Polar Radio Frequency and Infrared Light – plus tissue mobilization using a deep tissue vacuum massage. The synergy of the three components makes the VelaSmooth an effective treatment and the only medical cellulite solution on the market. In addition, VelaSmooth treatments are non-invasive, providing patients’ safe, comfortable treatments with no downtime. Patients describe the treatment as a warm, relaxing massage.

Treatment areas:

Hips (saddlebags)

Abdomen (love handles)

Buttocks

Arms

Calves

Neck

Bra line

In clinical studies conducted throughout North America, physicians have reported that 100% of their patients in the studies noted some improvement. Physicians took circumferential measurements of treated areas – like thighs, hips and arms and noted as much as a 4 cm reduction in the circumference of these body parts as well as smoothing and skin tightening effects.

VelsSmooth increases oxygen intracellular diffusion by heating adipose tissue to a depth of 5-15 mm, while heating subcutaneous fat to a depth of up to 5mm, while safeguarding the skin from damage. Tissue mobilization is facilitated by rotating, self-cleaning electrodes to ensure excellent coupling with the skin.

Bi-Polar RF is controllable and predictable. The RF of elos technology flows between the two electrodes of the application head, delivering maximum-targeted energy to the treatment area.

Ergonomic, lightweight handpiece and a treatment requires little pressure which makes this procedure comfortable for the medical staff member who is performing the treatment.

Most patients require 8-10 treatments administered 2 times a week for 4-5 weeks. A monthly follow-up treatment is advised but physicians are finding that the treatment results are lasting for months after the last treatment in the initial series. Physicians are charging between $150 and $200 per treatment and most are offering treatment package pricing.

The effects of Collagen are temporary and injections have to be repeated two to three times a year.

[...]

What is the FRAXEL SR Laser Treatment?

Until now, all (conventional) available laser treatments allowed for good results but at the cost of significant side effects, risks, and prolonged healing and recovery times or, on the other hand, generally fewer risks but at the cost of undergoing numerous treatments over several months and limited improvements. The Fraxel SR Laser Treatment is an innovative new technology that offers best of both old systems – excellent results without sacrificing safety, minimized side effects, drastically reduced healing time and much shorter therapy. The treatment significantly improves the texture of the skin, reduces wrinkles, skin discolorations such as age spots and sun spots on face, hands or anywhere on the body, as well as smoothes out acne scars.

How does the Fraxel Laser Treatment work?

Unlike traditional laser resurfacing, which removes the entire skin surface at one time, the Fraxel laser is selectively applied to the skin, creating a pattern of evenly spaced microscopic laser “spots” surrounded by untreated normal skin. Because the skin surrounding the spots is not treated at the same time, the healing takes place very quickly and treatment does not cause visible wounds. In subsequent sessions the rest of the untreated skin is targeted by the laser.

How many treatments will I need?

Each session treats approximately 15-20% of the skin surface. Typically 3 to 5 treatments – each from one week to one month apart – are recommended depending on the severity of the problem. Most patients will notice some improvement after a single treatment. “Maintenance” treatments can be performed as needed.

Where on the face or body can Fraxel Laser be used?

Fraxel Laser can be used anywhere on the body where the skin would benefit from resurfacing. Unlike old laser treatments, Fraxel allows for rejuvenating the neck and dcollet, which were not treatable with previously available methods.

Are Fraxel Laser treatments safe?

The Fraxel laser technology has been approved by FDA. The treatment is safe and no incidents of scarring or infection have been reported. Some mild blistering and/or temporary skin discoloration can occur, especially in darker-skinned patients, when more aggressive treatment is performed.

Is the Fraxel laser treatment painful?

Usually treatments feel like a prickling sensation and are well tolerated by patients.
To relieve any discomfort, a topical anesthetic ointment is applied prior to treatment.
For more aggressive treatments oral pain medicine or anesthetic injections may be used.

How long does each treatment session take?

Each treatment session may take anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes, depending upon the size of the area treated.

How soon can I return to my normal activities?

In most cases patients can resume all normal activities immediately. No special aftercare is needed for the treated areas and patients can begin regular skin care regimen right after the treatment. There may be some redness and swelling in the treated areas and a mild burning or itching sensation, which usually disappears in a few hours. Redness may persist for a few days and the skin may take on a “bronzed” appearance. As the microscopic spots are shed over the course of a week or so, the skin color will return to normal. If anesthetic injections are used, there may be some bruising in the injected areas. Very rarely, there may be crusting or blistering in some areas with more aggressive treatments.
If an oral medication for pain or sedation is given, a patient should not drive a car until the next morning.

When will I see the results?

Most patients will see some improvement within a few days after the procedure. Yet, the true miracle of the treatment is in “remodeling” the body collagen in the deep layers of the skin. Therefore, the patient will notice a gradual improvement and the skin smoothing and tightening over the period of up to a year following a series of treatments.

Are Fraxel laser treatments permanent?

The changes in the epidermis and dermal collagen induced by Fraxel Laser treatment are permanent; nevertheless, time, sun exposure, and gravity will continue to take its toll. The Fraxel Laser “turns back the clock”, but doesn’t keep the clock from ticking.

The Thermage procedure is the only FDA approved non-invasive treatment that delivers tighter skin, renewed facial contours and healthier collagen. This is very important since collagen is the building block that provides structure to the skin.

The Thermage procedure employs a patented radiofrequency (RF) technology called ThermaCool. It has been clinically proven to tighten and gently lift skin to smooth out wrinkles and renew facial contours. This non-surgical procedure is fast and easy and requires no downtime from normal activities. Unlike lasers, the procedure can be performed on patients of all skin types. The ThermaCool device has been cleared by the FDA for the non-invasive treatment of facial wrinkles and rhytids.

Thermage FAQ

How does it work?

The ThermaCool system uses a sophisticated treatment tip called ThermaTip, which delivers a controlled amount of RF energy. With each touch to the skin, the ThermaTip device uniformly heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue, while simultaneously protecting the outer layer of the skin with cooling. This deep uniform heating action causes deep structures in your skin to immediately tighten. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to further tighten skin, resulting in healthier, smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.

What does the Thermage procedure feel like?

With each touch of the ThermaTip device, you will experience a brief, deep heating sensation as the RF energy is delivered to your skin and underlying tissue. This deep heating sensation is your indication that your collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. The operator controls the amount of energy delivered to balance procedural comfort with maximum results. The ThermaTip device is cooled before, during, and after heating to protect your skin and make the treatment more comfortable. Prior to treatment, an anesthetic cream may be applied to enhance your comfort. Additionally, dr. Turowski may also prescribe relaxants and/or pain medication.

How long does it take?

The Thermage procedure can take anywhere from an hour to three hours, depending on the size of the treatment area. Additional time may be required for skin preparation prior to the procedure.

What will my skin feel like after the procedure?

Immediately following a Thermage procedure, your skin should feel tighter, smoother and more youthful. Over time, you will notice additional tightening.

How many treatments will I need?

Unlike many laser procedures requiring four or more sessions, a single Thermage treatment has produced results in the majority of patients. Dr Turowski will determine the course of treatment that is right for you.

When will I see results?

Recently published studies, conducted by, Thermage show that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months after a single treatment session. However, many patients have reported seeing an earlier response.

How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?

The Thermage procedure causes immediate tightening of the collagen structure, with additional tightening over time. Unpublished reports by experienced cosmetic physicians indicate that results may last 24 months or longer based on the patient’s natural aging process.

Is the Thermage procedure safe?

The Thermage procedure has an excellent safety record. With over 175,000 estimated worldwide patient treatments to date, the reported incidence of side effects is less than 0.4%. The most frequently reported incidents are classified as swelling, redness, bumps and blisters on or around the treated area. These side effects have usually disappeared in a few days. Consult with dr Turowski regarding this and any other questions you may have on the safety record of the Thermage procedure.

How long before I can return to my normal activities?

Most people return to their regular activities immediately following the Thermage procedure. Some people experience mild redness similar to a sunburn, but it usually disappears quickly. No special care is needed after treatment unless otherwise instructed by dr Turowski.

Vitalize Peel

The Vitalize Peel is a unique, break-through formulation of mild acids that provide a complete, consistent and safe peel with no “downtime” and predictable results for all skin types. This non-invasive peel creates a softer, smoother, younger looking complexion.

MicroPeel

The MicroPeel is a three-step process that removes a micro-thin top layer of skin. The top layer is a significant obstruction to having better skin because it is pore-clogged. This procedure is safe, effective, and is accomplished in 15-20 minutes.

MicroPeel Plus

The MicroPeel Plus is a fifteen minute in-office procedure that will help smooth fine lines and help even skin discoloration while simultaneously reducing the appearance of acne scars and environmental damage to the skin.

Pigment Peel Plus

The Pigment Peel Plus is a new TCA peel designed for stubborn pigmentation and fine lines. Unlike other La Roche-Posay peels, this is a medium-depth, in-office peel and has a brief recovery period.

Ultra Peel Forte Exfoliating Treatment

Those with resilient skin who have more dramatic wrinkling, sun damage, and acne scarring are the most suitable candidates for this deeper and more active treatment. Ultra Peel Forte will effectively treat aging skin, acne, pigment disorders, smoker’s skin, and photo-damaged skin. This treatment is ideal for dehydrated and aging skin in need of rejuvenation.

Sensi Peel Exfoliating Treatment

This gentle solution is formulated primarily for ethnic skin as well as all other extremely sensitive skin types. Sensi Peel will strengthen and brighten the skin, while helping to treat sun damage and other forms of hyper-pigmentation (skin discoloration). This multi-faceted treatment also provides anti-inflammatory, anti-acne, and antibacterial action, making it an excellent choice for helping to calm rosacea, as redness and inflammation can subside substantially after treatment.

Pumpkin Peel Treatment

PCA Professional Pumpkin Peel Treatment is a powerful antioxidant treatment that brightens and rejuvenates the skin. Pumpkin contains the highest concentration of salicylic acid of any plant, which provides the Pumpkin Peel Treatment with potent skin smoothing and pore clearing action. It also offers more than 100 beneficial components, including the highest concentration of vitamins A, C and beta-carotene found in any other fruit or vegetable. The treatment has simultaneous actions. It exfoliates and draws impurities out of the skin, while introducing vitamins, enzymes and nutrients into the skin. This is an excellent treatment for smokers, as it stimulates circulation, promotes healing and provides vitamin nutrition. This treatment is also great for smoothing the skin, as the naturally occurring salicylic acid in pumpkin removes the dead cells that cause a rough texture. There is no downtime. In fact, the skin will have a healthy glow following the treatment.

Oxygenating Trio

This is an antioxidant therapy to correct and prevent free radical damage as oxidative and environmental damage is one of the more significant contributors to the aging process. This treatment helps stimulate respiration and circulation within the skin. It helps promote healing and rejuvenates sluggish, stressed skin depleted by toxins, pollutants, allergens, improper diet and solar damage. Acneic conditions also benefit greatly. It is appropriate for use between peel treatments or when exfoliation or flaking is not desired. This treatment is also ideal two to three days before a special event. It draws oxygen to the skin’s surface, producing a rosy flush and a rapid warming sensation which results in a radiant, healthy look that lasts up to ten days.

Clarifying Mask Treatment

Clarifying Mask’s blend of 20% salicylic acid with cherry extract and other natural ingredients makes this an ideal choice for helping to improve acne, breakout-prone skin, and sluggish, dull complexions. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits refine skin texture and bring new brightness and freshness to the skin.
